On 5th May 2005 at a ceremony at Armoury House in London, the Company entered into an Association with Her Majesty’s Submarine “Torbay”, in the presence of the then Commanding Officer, Commander Chris Groves, RN.
The current Commanding Officer is, Commander Ed Ahlgren.
The object of the Association is "to promote and enhance the reputation and integrity of the Company and of the Submarine by all appropriate means and to provide such mutual assistance and support for the Company and the Submarine as may be desirable and practicable".
As the Article of Association states, our Liverymen and the crew of HMS Torbay look forward to "fostering a special relationship of goodwill".
HMS Torbay is the fifth of the Royal Navy’s powerful Trafalgar class submarines and the fifth vessel to carry the name "Torbay", a name which carries the prestige of twelve battle honours.
The fourth HMS Torbay was a “T” Class submarine in which her commanding officer, Lt Cdr A C C Miers, won the Victoria Cross for a particularly dangerous raid on enemy shipping in harbour at Corfu in March 1942. Rear Admiral Sir Anthony Miers, VC, KBE, CB, DSO, as he became after World War II, was Master of the Tin Plate Workers Company in 1984.
